Temple Tennis Successful on Day One of Cornell Wicked Invitational

Owls wins three of four singles matches, two of three doubles
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Temple men's tennis team was active at the Cornell Men's Wicked Invitational on Friday, October 30, 2009. The Owls picked up three wins in singles action, and were victorious in two of three doubles matches.
Sophomore Filip Rams dropped a 4-6, 4-6 decision to the host teams Andy Gauthier to start the day in A Singles. Rams' brother, Kacper, got the Cherry and White on the winning side with a 6-1, 3-6, 12-10 win over Nicolas Gutscha of Navy.
At C Singles, Dmitry Vizhunov defeated Bruno Lucivero, 7-5, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinal round. Temple's last singles competition of the day was a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win by Matt King over Nick Birger of Navy.
In doubles action, Rams and Rams teamed up to defeat Rohan Patal and John Smetona of Case Western, 8-4. The duo then fell to Marist's Christian Coley and Rhys Hobbs by the same score, 8-4, in the second round.
King and Vizhunov received a bye in their first round of play, and then paired up to defeat Alex Solova and Wojo Woyczynski of Case Western, 8-3.
"The guys got off to a strong start today," said head coach Steve Mauro. "I expect the team to have another strong performance tomorrow and we look forward to the competition."
