Temple Football Hosts Ball State in PINKOUT Game

THIS WEEK
Temple returns home to host Ball State for the first time in MAC play on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field. The game has been designated a “PINKOUT” in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The first 5,000 fans will receive pink pom-pons, sponsored by TD Bank and City View Pizza. A portion of the tickets sales will be donated to the Temple Cancer Center.
The Owls' radio broadcast will air on WHAT 1340 AM with Harry Donahue calling the play-by-play and Steve Joachim providing color analysis. All-MACcess will carry live video streaming of the game. Live gametracker stats and video streaming will be available on the Temple Athletics website at www.OwlSports.com.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Al Golden, Temple stands 2-2 overall and a perfect 2-0 in MAC play. Last week, the Owls won their 400th game in school history with a 24-12 decision at Eastern Michigan. TU opened play in the MAC at 2-0 for the first time ever and opened conference play with two wins for the first time since 1967. The 2009 squad, featuring Golden's first recruiting class as seniors, returns 21 starters to 17 positions. The Owls utilize an East Coast offense and 4-3 defense.
On the ground, freshman RB Bernard Pierce leads the Owls with 364 yards and three touchdowns on 58 carries. R-junior QB Vaughn Charlton has thrown 49-of-96 for 740 yards and four touchdowns. R-sophomore Joe Jones is the top receiver with 163 yards on 11 catches.
Temple ranks No. 19 nationally in kickoff returns (26.33) and No. 24 in rushing defense (99.75). Ball State ranks No. 20 in net punting (38.96).
Head coach Stan Parrish is in his first full season at Ball State. The Cardinals stand 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in MAC play after a 37-30 loss to Toledo. BSU returns 11 starters to its multiple offense and 4-3 defense.
Senior HB MiQuale Lewis is the Cardinals' leading rusher with 209 yards and three touchdowns on 70 carries. R-freshman QB Kelly Page has started every game and is 83-of-163 for 743 yards and five touchdowns. Sophomore WR Briggs Orsbon is the top receiver with 219 yards and a touchdown on 27 receptions.

Temple has no players on its roster from the state of Indiana. Ball State has no players from Pennsylvania.
Temple defensive line coach Randy Melvin and Ball State linebacker coach Deion Melvin are cousins. The duo grew up in the same hometown of Aurora, Ill.

Ball State is the fourth of five bowl teams that Temple will play this fall. The Cardinals played in the MAC Championship game and the GMAC Bowl in 2008. TU has already faced postseason participants Villanova, Penn State, and Buffalo. The fifth bowl team Temple will face is Navy on October 31.
