Junior standout led NCAA Division I in kills per set through the month of September
Temple volleyball junior Yun Yi Zhang has been named Owlsports.com Athlete of the Month for the month of September. Zhang leads the team, A-10 and all players in NCAA Division I in kills at 5.64 per set (265 total), and has now made her way onto Temple's all-time career kills list after just 2 1/2 seasons, currently ranking ninth with 1,377 kills.
Zhang was named the A-10 co-Player of the Week after the first weekend of play, in which she was also named to the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Invitational All-Tournament Team. The following weekend, Zhang was named to the Big 5 All-Tournament Team.
Zhang tied her career high with 33 kills in a 3-2 win vs. previously undefeated Villanova on Sept. 5, and led or tied for match-high honors (both teams) in kills in all but one of Temple's 11 matches, including one of two matches against #1 Penn State. She has tallied four kill-dig double-doubles so far this season, and ranks fourth on team in digs as well as third on the team in blocks.
