PHILADELPHIA - Temple will host the annual Big 5 Golf Invitational this weekend at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, PA. The 2009 field includes 17 teams from 10 different conferences and features all six Division I universities in Philadelphia (Drexel, La Salle, Penn, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Villanova).
Tee times begin at 7:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday on the Wissahickon Course. Live scoring will be available beginning on the back nine on Saturday on owlsports.com and golfstatresults.com.
In addition to the six Philadelphia teams, the field includes Binghamton, Boston College, Campbell, Cornell, Harvard, Princeton, Navy, Richmond, St. John's, West Florida and Yale.
Temple rallied from 10 shots down on the back nine to win the 2008 team title by one stroke over Seton Hall. Villanova junior Brendan Kelly returns to defend his 2008 individual medalist honor. He defeated Binghamton's Jake Katz, also a junior, with a par on the first hole of the playoff. Both players shot identical 71-71=142 scores.
