PHILADELPHIA - The first of four Temple men's/women's basketball doubleheaders Tuesday at the Liacouras Center is a pre-Thanksgiving feast for Owl fans. The Temple women, off to its best start (4-0) since 2005-06, host Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan at 5:00 p.m. while the Owl men tip-off against Ball State of the MAC at 7:30 p.m. Both games can be seen on videostream on OwlAccess. The Temple men (2-1) are coming off a 73-69 win over highly-regarded Siena Saturday night. Three Owls - Juan Fernandez (20), Ramone Moore (16) and Micheal Eric (12) - set new scoring highs in the win over the Saints, which entered play #26/27 in the polls. Senior co-captain Ryan Brooks, who leads the Owls with a 15.3 scoring average, added 17 points in the Siena win. Junior Lavoy Allen (9.7 ppg.) tops the squad with a 12.0 rebound average while senior co-captain Luis Guzman boasts a team-high 11 assists.
Sophomore forward Jarrod Jones, a preseason Mid-Major All-America selection, leads the Cardinals with a 19.0 scoring average. Freshman Jauwan Scaife and junior Malik Perry also average double figures, tallying 13.0 and 11.0 points per game.
The Temple women, fresh off a 65-55 win at Buffalo Saturday, are led by Shaqwedia Wallace. The junior guard averages 18.0 points and has made a team-high 10 three-pointers. Sophomore forward Kristen McCarthy averages 12.2 points while senior guard LaKeisha Eaddy (7.5 ppg.) tops the Owls with 22 assists.
Like Temple, Eastern Michigan has opened the season with a 4-0 record. The Eagles sport three double-figure scorers led by sophomore guard Tavelyn James (18.8 ppg., 12 three-pointers).
