Pascarelli places third in sabre, Jones 23rd in foil
PHILADELPHIA - In split-squad action, two members of the Temple women's fencing team competed at the 78th annual NIWFA Christmas Invitational on Sunday, December 6th in Jersey City, N.J. With over 15 schools represented, the day was action packed.
Junior Sam Pascarelli entered the final round of sabre competition undefeated, beating 15 fencers, before going five and three in the finals. Improving on last year's seventh place finish, Pascarelli finished third and picked up the second NIWFA Christmas Invitational medal of her career. Juliet Turalski of Stevens Institute of Technology took the title in Sabre.
In what proved to be a very competitive foil group, sophomore Danielle Jones finished 23rd out of 52 competitors. Marion Trumbull from Johns Hopkins University finished first in Foil.
Up next for the full Owls' squad will be the Philadelphia Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania, on January 9th, 2010.
