Women's Basketball Travels to Charlotte For Wednesday Night Contest

CHARLOTTE- The Temple women's basketball team (16-8, 7-3 A-10) will get its first look at Halton Arena when it travels to Charlotte on Wednesday night. The 49ers, who will play host to the 2099 A-10 Championship, are currently second in A-10 play with a 9-1 record. The game tips off at 7 p.m.
Series Record
This is the fifth meeting between Temple and Charlotte with Temple leading the series, 3-1. The teams last played on February 6, 2008, when the Owls defeated the 49ers, 66-53.
Scouting the Owls
Temple completed its sweep of Saint Joseph's with a 60-48 win on Sunday. Temple held a 20-point lead with 1:40 remaining in the game, holding the Hawks to just 15 points in the stanza at that point. But the deficit was quickly cut to 12 points on two SJU treys and a layup as well as TU turnovers. Shanea Cotton led all scorers with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Temple scored the game's first four points before SJU nailed a three-point bucket to cut the lead to one. Sparked by threes from Kristen McCarthy and LaKeisha Eaddy, the Owls went on a 10-0 run to pull ahead by 11 points, 14-3. The Hawks chipped away, utilizing a 6-0 run to cut the lead to one again, 24-23 with 3:48 left in the half. Temple held a three-point advantage at intermission, 28-25.
Shenita Landry leads four Owls in double figures with 12.1 ppg and a team-high 9.8 rpg, while Shaqwedia Wallace is second with 11.4 ppg. Cotton is third with 11.3 ppg and Eaddy is fourth with 10.8 and has dished a team-high 132 assists.
Scouting the 49ers
Charlotte defeated La Salle, 67-62, in overtime on the road for their ninth straight win. Charlotte nearly had three players with double-doubles. Erin Floyd led the 49ers in rebounding with 10 rebounds and she added 11 points for her third double-double of the season. Danielle Burgin led the 49ers with 20 points while grabbing nine rebounds. Aysha Jones scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds. With Charlotte leading 46-41 with 9:13 left in the second half, La Salle would go on a 13-8 run over the next eight minutes tying the score for the fifth time at 54 with 1:28 left in regulation. Burgin helped the 49ers regain the lead with basket with 23 seconds left in regulation. La Salle tied the game and sent it into overtime with a layup with six seconds left in the regulation.
Jones leads Charlotte in scoring with 13.6 ppg, while Shannon McCallum is second with 11.9 ppg. Burgin is third with 11.3 ppg and 9.2 rpg, while Floyd has 10.6 ppg.
No Place Like Home
Shaqwedia Wallace and Marli Bennett return home to North Carolina for the second time this season. Wallace hails from Wilmington while Bennett is from Pilot Mountain, located about an hour and a half from Charlotte.
Lending a Helping Hand
LaKeisha Eaddy is quickly climbing the career assists list. The Columbia, Md. native currently has 342 career assists, which is ranked seventh on Temples all time assists list. Her 132 helpers this season is tied for seventh on TU's single season list.
