Men's Track In Fourth Place After First Day Of A-10's

KINGSTON, RI - The Temple men's indoor track & field team finds themselves in a familiar position after the first day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Kingston, RI. The Owls are sitting in fourth place, the same spot they finished last year. Aaron Taylor was the Owls lone first place qualifier, claiming the top spot in the 800m (1:56.02).
Senior Marquise Stancil gave the Owls a boost in the 500m, placing secont in the qualifying round with a time of 1:05.03. Along with Stancil, Miles Dryden qualified for the finals in the 55m dash (6.56), and placed fourth in the long jump finals (23-02.00).
Other notable performances were had by Joshua Louis, who placed fifth in the 55m hurdles qualifier (7.80), and Justin Sullivan, who snuck in to the 1000m finals with a time of 2:33.21.
Junior Grant West claimed a spot on the podium in the weight throw, finishing third with a distance of 54-07.50.
The Owls nabbed 27 points on the day, and find themselves behind Dayton, Richmond, and host Rhode Island.
The Atlantic 10 Championships will wrap up today at 3:00 p.m., with the awards ceremony. Complete results for the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship will be posted at the end of competition on Saturday at www.atlantic10.org.
