Women's Fencing Eighth After First Day of NCAA Championships

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The No. 9 Temple women's fencing team is holding its own against the best competition in the nation, as the Owls rank eighth among women's teams after the first day of competition.

"The competition is fierce," said head coach Nikki Franke. "Several of the girls got off to a slow start but seemed to pick up steam as the day progressed."

Individually, all five of the Owls are still in the hunt after four rounds.

Melissa Parker - Women's Foil - 11th place (7-7)

Kristin Howell - Women's Epee - 13th place (7-7)

Grace Wu - Women's Epee - 20th place (3-11)

Audrey Barroso - Women's Sabre - 13th place (6-8)

Kamali Thompson - Women's Sabre - 14th place (6-8)

 

Overall Leaders

Sabre - Rebecca Ward - Duke

Epee - Courtney Hurley - Notre Dame

Foil - Emily Cross - Harvard

 

Overall Team Event (Men & Women)

1st place - PSU

2nd place - Notre Dame

3rd place - Ohio State

The Owls will close out competition with the final day of the NCAA Championships tomorrow afternoon from Penn State University.
