Abercrombie Named Big Five Player Of The Week

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Jamie Abercrombie, who batted .435 with five doubles and seven RBI in Temple's 4-1 week, has been named the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week, in voting conducted by the organization's head coaches and sports information offices. The Ambler, PA native moved into eighth place on the TU all-time hit list with 186, passing former major leaguer Bobby Higginson.
Abercrombie scored eight runs and hit his first collegiate grand slam in a 10-5 win over Lehigh on Tuesday. He had three hits against the Mountain Hawks, and added two doubles against Penn.
His best game came on Sunday in a 17-5 win over Duquesne. He had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs.
Saint Joseph's Dominic Favazza was named the Big Five Pitcher of the Week.
Temple (7-10) hosts Monmouth on Tuesday at Skip Wilson Field. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
