Owls Continue Outdoor Success At Danny Curran Invitational

CHESTER, PA - In their second outdoor competition of the spring season, the Temple Track & Field teams posted numerous first place finishes at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University. The Owls had record setting performances from both teams, with Bob Keogh breaking the school record in the hammer throw, and Melissa Gale tying the record in the pole vault.

Keogh threw an IC4A qualifying mark of 56.42m in the hammer throw, taking first place in the event. The Owls went one-two-three in the event, with junior Grant West taking second (53.64m), and senior Bryce Buffaloe finishing in third (46.98).

Gale, the school record holder in the indoor pole vault, tied the school mark by clearing a first-place height of 3.5m.

On the men's side, junior Joshua Louis fared well in the field, clearing 1.89m to take first place. Louis also had a personal best time in the 200m dash, finishing in a time of 22.29. The junior saved his best for the 110m hurdles, breaking the tape in first place with a time of 15.11.

In the same event, sophomore Tim Boeni took second place in a personal-best time of 21.97. Following closely in fourth place was teammate Miles Dryden, who recorded a personal best time of 22.13.

The men's relay teams continue to have success in the outdoor conditions, with both the 4x100m (42.21) and 4x400m (Stancil, Boone, Taylor, Sullivan; 3:18.49) teams nabbing first place finishes. Sophomore Aaron Taylor managed to place second in the 800m in a time of 1:55.72.

Along with leading the 4x400m team, senior Jason Sullivan also posted a personal best in the 1500m (4:07.15). In the same heat, freshman Travis Mahoney placed second in a personal-best time of 3:57.89.

The Cherry and White distance specialists boasted solid numbers on the day. Sophomore Eric Conklin led the way with a first place finish in the 5000m (15.23.05), while senior Adin Mickle took fourth in the 10k (33:11.90), followed closely in fifth place by freshman David Walters (33:22.18).

For the women, the Owls were led by senior Devon DuPont. DuPont claimed a first place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.68) and tied for the title in the high jump with Talitha Smith (1.56m). For DuPont, it was a personal best in the 100m hurdles.

Also in the high jump, Abigail Blomeke posted a third place finish, clearing a height of 1.56m.

The Owls continue to find success from senior Amanda Cole. Cole, for the second straight week, posted a first place finish in the hammer throw. Sequoia McBall took a first place finish in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 11.4m.

Other notable performances were had by junior Paris Williams, who recorded a personal best in the 800m (2:15.44) and the women's 4x100m relay team, which placed first in a time of 48.11.

The Owls will take to action next when they travel to the University of Florida for the Florida Relays from April 3-4, or compete in the Penn Invitational on April 4.
