Four Fencer Earn All-NIWFA Honors

PHILADELPHIA - Four members of the Temple women's fencing team, junior Melissa Parker, freshman Kamali Thompson, sophomore Audrey Barroso and junior Kristin Howell - have been selected to 2009 All National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) teams, the association announced on Thursday. A fifth member - junior Christie Griffith - was named to the NIWFA All-Academic team.
In foil, junior Parker was named first-team All-NIWFA. A two-time NCAA All-American, Parker was the 2009 NIWFA individual foil champion.
In sabre, Thompson was named first-team All-NIWFA, while teammate Barroso received second-team recognition. Thompson was the 2009 NIWFA individual sabre champion.
In epee, Howell was named first- team All-NIWFA. A 2008 NCAA All-American, Howell was the 2009 NIWFA individual epee champion.
The No. 8 Owls are in action this Sunday with the NCAA Regionals from Drew University.
