PHILADELPHIA - Senior outfielder Sean Barksdale, who batted .450 with four home runs and eight RBI in four games last week, has been named the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week, in voting conducted by the city's head coaches and sports information offices. Barksdale recorded a slugging percentage of 1.100 and scored seven runs.
The Glenolden, PA native had nine hits in 20 at-bats, with five going for extra bases. He hit safely in all four games and had homers in three, including two towering blasts in game two of Friday's doubleheader versus Saint Joseph's.
Barksdale has hit safely in 22 of his last 23 games and his nine home runs are a new career-high.
The co-captain is moving up the career lists at Temple in RBI, hits, and stolen bases. He is tied for third in RBI (138) with former major leaguer Bobby Higginson (1989, 1991-92) and is sixth all-time in hits (195). His 10 steals this season give him 51 for his career, good for seventh all-time with Higginson.
Barksdale is currently first in the Atlantic 10 in runs (38) and total bases (87), second in hits (51), fourth in home runs (nine), fifth in slugging (.669) and RBI (32), seventh in batting average (.392)
