EASTON, PA - Temple matched Lafayette with 15 hits but fell short in the run column in a 13-6 loss to the Leopards on Thursday at Kamine Stadium. Junior Tony Jusino had two doubles and a triple and drove in three runs. The Owls have dropped six straight and host Charlotte in a critical Atlantic 10 series beginning on Friday.
Four Temple hitters had two hits--senior Sean Barksdale, senior Kyle Obal, sophomore Jabair Khan and freshman Foster Dunigan.
Barksdale now has a team-high 53 hits this season and 197 for his career, good for fifth all-time at TU. Dunigan collected his first college hit with a fifth inning single after coming off the bench to play second base. He also singled in the ninth.
Lafayette (18-16) won its fourth straight game by putting up crooked numbers in five different frames. The Leopards opened up a 7-0 lead after three innings and led 13-2 after eight before the Owls scored four in their final at-bat.
TU (13-18) got on the board with a run in the fourth. Jusino led off with a double and scored on Obal's single. He now has a team-best 33 RBI.
Jusino doubled home a run in the eighth to make it 13-2 and the Owls added four in the ninth. Senior Jamie Abercrombie plated a run with a fielder's choice and a pinch-hit double by sophomore Ryan Ferguson cut the deficit to 13-4. A two-run triple by Jusino completed the scoring.
Freshman Tyler Horst suffered the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) in two innings. He falls to 1-3.
Ryan Hanna (4-3) picked up the win after striking out three in two scoreless innings. Adam McMahon had four hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs.
Temple hosts Charlotte on Friday at 3 PM. Live video streaming will be available for Saturday and Sunday's game via OwlAccess.
