Temple Track Teams Ready To Compete In Illustrious Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple track & field teams will be traveling across town to compete in the 115th Penn Relays, beginning Thursday at Franklin Field. The Owls are sending 16 individuals and seven relay teams to compete against some of the nation's best athletes.
On Thursday, Sophomore Assata Cowart has the honors of being the first Owl to race in the 2009 Penn Relays. Cowart will take to the track in the 400m hurdles, set to start at 10:00 a.m.
Junior Melissa Gale, the school record holder in the pole vault, will kick off the field events for the Cherry and White at 10:00 a.m.
Look for senior Amanda Cole to compete in the hammer throw at 11:00 a.m. Following Cole at 4:00 a.m. will be long jumpers Brittany Clybourn and Britney McRae.
Devon DuPont, Carlleen Allison, Rose Drayton, and Andrea Butler will join forces at 1:00 p.m. for the 4x100m prelims. To close out Day 1 for the Owls, Allison and DuPont will be back in action with Paris Williams and Tashima Stephens in the 4x400m prelims at 5:50 p.m.
Action on Friday will commence at 9:00 a.m. with junior Brad McFadden in the 400m hurdles. Junior Joshua Louis will compete in the high jump at 10:00 a.m.
Starting things off for the women on Friday will be sophomore Sequoia McBall, vying for the title in the triple jump at 11:00 a.m.
At 12:35, the men's 4x100 consisting of Joshua Louis, Ryan Berger, Tim Boeni, and Miles Dryden will compete. The 4x200m relay team (Louis, Boeni, Dryden, Lynch) is in action at 1:50. Boeni and Dryden will transfer from the track to the field at 3:30 to compete in the long jump.
Following them at 2:10 will be the women's 4x200, consisting of Allison, DuPont, Williams, and Butler. The shuttle hurdles team comprised of Brittany Clybourn, Britney McRae, Kayla Mayhew, and Devon DuPont, will compete at 3:10.
The men's 4x400m relay team (Boone, Taylor, Stancil, Sullivan) will see their first action at 5:25.
The women's sprint medley team (Drayton, Cowart, Adams, Bennett) and the men's sprint medley team (Lee, Bowser, Stroh, Lynch) wrap up action on Friday at 6:20 and 6:45, respectively.
On Saturday, Grant West and Bob Keogh will square off in the hammer throw at 12:15. The 4x800 team (Taylor, Sullivan, Stroh, Stancil) will compete at 4:35 p.m.
The women's 4x200 and 4x400 teams will compete at 2:32 and 5:55, respectively. The men's 4x200 will compete at 2:37, while the 4x400m team will round out the day at 6:00.
