Men's Crew Competes In The Bergen Cup

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's crew team competed in the Bergen Cup on the Schuylkill River Saturday. In a closely contested race, the Varsity 8 took first in a come from behind victory with a time of 6:05.1. The Frosh/Novice 4 took the lead from the start and never looked back,rowing a time of 7:08.5 to take the title.
Rowing the Varsity 8 boat were coxswain Michael Berger, stroke James Barr, John Masterson (7-seat), Patrick Curran (6-seat), Scott Waters (5-seat), Jeff Wunderlich (4-seat), Brendan Cunningham (3-seat), Thomas Masterson (2-seat), and Joseph Welsh (1-seat). The Frosh/Novice 4 was comprised of coxswain Samuel Scimeca, stroke Djordje Vilmanovic, Petar Ivacic (3-seat), Chris Roberts (2-seat), Brandon Joyce (1-seat).
In the Varsity 8B race, the Owls fell behind early as a result of a poor start and were never able to make up the lost time on rival Saint Joseph's. The boat, consisting of coxswain Thomas Goldner, stroke Stephen Brady, Joe Bellesheim (6-seat), Matthew Meyer (6-seat), Aaron Heyde (5-seat), Brian Reehill (4-seat), Petar Ivacic (3-seat), Scott Herring (2-seat), John Boehm (1-seat), rowed a time of 6:25.7 for a second place finish.
Down early in their race, the Varsity 4 made a valient effort to climb back into contention, only to fall short by half a boat length. Rowing the V4 to a sixth place time of 7:34.6 were coxswain Samuel Gennace, stroke Bradford Long, Alex Klein (3-seat), Ryan Martin (2-seat), Nick Contino (1-seat).
The Owls will be back on the Schuylkill next for the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta, taking place May 8 and 9.
