Owls Compete in Florida Relays, Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple Track & Field team's traveled part of their squad to Gainesville, FL for this year's Florida Relays, while the rest stayed to compete in the Penn Invitational. The Owls held their own against some of the nations best collegiate and club competition. Senior Amanda Cole took a fifth place finish in the hammer throw in Florida, while Bob Keogh nabbed a respectable seventh place in the same event.

Cole landed a distance of 175-05 in the women's finals. Keogh, who threw a 180-08 at Wake Forest, bettered his outdoor-season best with a throw of 185-11. Junior Grant West also fared well in the hammer throw, landing a distance of 178-06.

Also competing in a field event was Joshua Louis, who took thirteenth in the high jump clearing a height of 6-08.75.

In the sprints, Paris Williams was the tenth-best collegiate finisher (16th overall) in the 400m dash, finishing in a time of 55.04. In the 800m, freshman Shadaya Bennett ran a time of 2:15.02, while Tashima Stephens clocked in at 2:16.61.

For the men, sophomore Brad McFadden placed 16th in the 400m in a time of 53.55. Freshman Aaron Taylor represented the Cherry and White in the 800m, running a time of 1:53.72.

The Owls relay teams also made their mark in the Sunshine State, with the women's 4x400m team taking the best finish on the day. Tashima Stephens, Assata Cowart, Paris Williams, and Carlleen Allison led the 4x400 to a 15th place finish in a time of 3:44.06. The women's 4x100m relay (DuPont, Allison, Butler, McRae) took 26th in a time of 47.73. Also competing was the women's 4x200m team (Allison, Butler, Williams, DuPont), which placed 18th in a time of 1:39.90.

The men's 4x100 (Boeni, Stancil, Dryden, Louis) took a 17th place finish in a time of 41.92, while the 4x400 (Stancil, Boone, Sullivan, Taylor) finished in a time of 3:14.59.

At the Penn Invitational, Tariq Lee was the Owls top finisher in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 51.30. Also for the men, Clarke Hunt finished the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 10:29.80, good enough for a 15th place finish. In the same event, Brian Ledder finished in a time of 11:02.69.

For the women, Brianna Linneman finished 22nd in the 5000m run with a time of 20:15.15. Kayla Mayhew finished the 100m hurdles in a time of 16.09 to nab 21st place.

In the javelin, Eric Brittingham took fifth place with a throw of 175-09. On the women's side, Daisy Amato also placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 118-06.

The Owls are back in action this Thursday, April 9, when they compete in a dual meet with La Salle, and then again this weekend at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic.
