PHILADELPHIA - Temple senior first baseman Lenny DelGrippo and Temple junior righthander Ryan Thomas have been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in voting conducted by the head coaches and sports information offices.
DelGrippo batted .476 (10-for-21) with two homers and five RBI in five games last week for the Owls. He hit safely in all five games, hitting home runs in consecutive games this weekend at Richmond. He has raised his average from .192 on March 25 to .356 on May 3.
Thomas allowed one earned run in six innings to give Temple an 8-3 victory over Richmond on Saturday. He scattered six hits and struck out three to improve to 4-3 this season. Thomas sports a team-best 3.90 ERA.
Formed with the mission of increasing the exposure of college baseball in the area, Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball is comprised of the five Division I universities in Philadelphia that sponsor baseball. The Big 5 will announce a Player and Pitcher of the Week every Monday during the season. The fourth annual All-Big 5 baseball team will be announced at the conclusion of the season.
Temple (17-26) visits Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday at 2:30 PM.
