Crew's Thomas Masterson Highlights Eleven Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Honorees

PHILADELPHIA - Men's crew junior Thomas Masterson was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year to highlight eleven Owls named to the newspaper's spring academic all-star teams. Head coach Gavin White's squad had a Temple-best three members on the team, which was voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Masterson sat in the second seat for Temple's Varsity 8 team, helping the team to wins at the Bergen Cup, Knecht Cup and Braxton Regetta. They were silver medalists at the Murphy Cup, bronze medalists at the SIRA Regatta and reached the semi-finals of the Dad Vail Regatta.
Masterson is a biology major with a grade point average of 3.61. Last year, he was named to the Academic All-Area team for the first time as a sophomore. He is joined on the Academic All-Area team for men's crew by his brother John and Patrick Curran.
Also represented on their respective Academic All-Area teams were Erin Buchanan (women's crew), Bailey Chick (women's crew), Bob Keogh (men's track and field, Andrew Mason (golf), Courtney Norene (softball), Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova (women's tennis), Nathan Spunda (men's tennis), and Ann Stouffer (women's lacrosse).
