Zhang and Pierre Earn Atlantic 10 Volleyball Weekly Honors

Senior Yun Yi Zhang named co-Offensive POW; junior Ariel Pierre named Defensive POW
PHILADELPHIA (8/31/09) - With impressive numbers for their respective positions, Temple volleyball senior Yun Yi Zhang and junior Ariel Pierre earned A-10 co-Offensive Player of the Week and A-10 Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Zhang, the offensive honoree, was named to the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Invitational All-Tournament Team this past weekend. She recorded 80 total kills (6.67 per set) along with 26 digs (2.17 per set). Zhang led all players in kills in all three matches, with 29 in a 3-2 loss to VCU and 25 in a 3-1 loss to Wright State.
In Temple's 3-0 sweep of St. John's, Zhang tallied a double-double with 26 kills and 14 digs.
Pierre was impressive at the libero position all weekend, recording match-high numbers in digs in all three matches. She tallied 26 vs. VCU, 25 vs. Wright State and 22 in just three sets vs. St. John's. Pierre's 73 total digs gave her an outstanding average of 6.08 digs per set.
