Temple Golf In 10th Place After First Day At Adams Cup of Newport

Eric Plisko again leads Owls
NEWPORT, R.I. - The Temple men's golf team placed 10th out of 17 teams after the first day of competition at the 16th Annual Adams Cup of Newport held at the Newport National G.C. (par 72 - 7,244 yards) Monday. The Owls carded a two-round total of 608 (305-303), 25 strokes behind first place University of New Mexico. Temple was ahead of the other two Atlantic 10 Conference teams (Rhode Island, 13th, Saint Joseph's 17th) in the field.
"We really hung in there today on a difficult course against a strong field," Temple head coach Brian Quinn said. "Hopefully we can play even better tomorrow."
Senior Eric Plisko led the Cherry and White and tied for 17th among the 89 golfers with a three-over par 147 (71-76). Junior Andrew Mason carded a 153 (78-75) to tie for 40th. Junior Mark Edmonson (79-75, 153) and redshirt freshman Devin Bibeau (75-79, 153) were one stroke behind Mason and tied for 46th while Joseph Kim (81-84, 165, t-85th) rounded out the Owls squad.
Connecticut's Jeb Buchanan sits atop the individual leaderboard, with 6-under 138. He fired consecutive rounds of 69 in the morning and afternoon sessions. Georgia Southern's Ryan Zabroske sits two strokes back at 4-under, after back-to-back rounds of 70 today.
The final round of the Adams Cup of Newport will be held Tuesday.
