Owls open season at Florida Gulf Coast on February 19th

PHILADELPHIA – Temple baseball head coach Rob Valli has announced the schedule for his 2010 campaign. Trips to Florida Gulf Coast, UNLV, and Duke highlight the Owls non-conference match-ups, preparing them for their pursuit of a coveted Atlantic 10 title.

“Our goal is to travel and play excellent non-conference opponents as a way to prepare for a very challenging Atlantic 10 schedule,” said Valli. “Opening the season with 11 games on the road versus Florida Gulf Coast, UNLV, and Duke will be a tremendous test for our baseball team.”

The Diamond Owls travel to Fort Myers, FL to take on Florida Gulf Coast from February 19th to the 21st. From there they will venture to Las Vegas, NV for a four-game set with UNLV on February 26th to the 28th, playing a doubleheader on the 27th.

Heading to Durham, NC on March 5th to the 7th, the Owls will face off with ACC-foe Duke, for a four game series with a doubleheader on the 6th.

TU opens their season at home on March 10th, facing off with Delaware State. They conclude the pre-conference portion of their schedule in the Philadelphia area, with six home games and trips to Penn and Monmouth.

The Owls then open their Atlantic 10 campaign at home on March 26th, taking on top-contenders Rhode Island and Dayton. The seven-game home stand will be the longest of the season, with a Liberty Bell Classic match-up against Lehigh splitting the two A-10 series.

“We open the A-10 schedule against the top two teams in the league (Rhode Island and Dayton), commented Valli. “We have an opportunity to make our presence felt early in the season, and it's important that we are playing our best baseball at that time.”

Road-trips to A-10 foes St. Louis, La Salle, Charlotte, Duquesne, and St. Bonaventure will prove to be competitive and challenging obstacles in the Owls' path. Exciting home conference contests include showdowns with Richmond and George Washington.

The Atlantic 10 Championship will be played May 26th to the 29th, at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ.
