Men's Soccer Battles To 0-0 Draw Against Lafayette

9.6.09 | Men's Soccer

Hard fought contest makes for Owls undefeated weekend

Ambler, Pa. – The Temple men's soccer (1-0-1) team hosted Lafayette Sunday afternoon at the Ambler Sports Complex in a highly anticipated match between two undefeated squads.  Temple entered the game with a 1-0 record after defeating Villanova 2-1 on Friday afternoon and Lafayette came in 2-0.  The game lived up to its expectations as the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw.

After an even first half with each team posting three shots, the Owls came out firing on all cylinders to begin the second.  Midway through the period TU sophomore forward Tyler Witmer played a beautiful through ball to freshman midfielder Homero Rodriguez, forcing Lafayette goalkeeper Philip Nelson to come up with a big save to keep the game deadlocked at 0-0.

Moments later Temple goalie Bret Mollon responded with an amazing save, tipping a sure goal over the crossbar.  Mollon posted six saves in the contest

Both overtime periods proved no different as the two determined teams could not seem to breakaway from the pack.  Lafayette finished with a 13-11 edge in shots.

Up next for the Cherry and White is the Old Dominion Tournament, where they will face off with William & Mary and host Old Dominion.  The Owls returns home to host Navy on Friday, September 18th, with game time scheduled for 3:30pm
