CINCINNATI, Ohio – Kristen McCarthy scored a career-high 28 points, but it wasn't enough as the Temple women's basketball never recovered from a first-half deficit at #16/14 Xavier, losing 82-69. The Musketeers (11-3) out-rebounded the Owls 40-24 and led 46-28 at halftime.

Amber Harris and Tyeasha Moss led Xavier with 20 points apiece, with Harris adding a game-high 13 rebounds. Moss made all five of her three-point attempts in the contest.

McCarthy went 5-of-6- from behind the arc en route to her career high. Qwedia Wallace scored 16 points for Temple (10-5) including 4-of-5 three's, and BJ Williams scored 12 and went 3-of-5 from long range.

The first half was a three-point shooting battle with both teams looking impressive from behind the arc, but Xavier's ability to score inside was the difference.

The lead changed hands five times before Xavier held a one or two-possession lead for a 10-minute stretch. With Temple down 25-23 at 7:13, the Owls went cold while the Musketeers surged ahead and closed the half on a 21-5 run to lead 46-28 at the break.

Temple shot 6-of-8 from three-point range in the half, but made only four two-point buckets. Xavier went 8-for-13 from long range but an impressive 18-for-31 overall (58.1 percent).

Rebounding became a huge factor in the second half as Xavier out-rebounded the Owls 27-13, leading to a 16-4 edge in second chance points.

Xavier opened up a 22-point lead on two occasions early in the second half. After the first, Temple used an 8-0 to cut the margin to 14, but it was as close as the Owls would get until the final seconds. The Musketeers took their largest lead of 24, 78-54 at 4:09, but the Owls kept competing and closed the game on a 15-4 run.

Temple was forced to play without the services of starting point guard LaKeisha Eaddy, who suffered a concussion in practice two days before the game.

Temple will return to action at home on Wednesday, Jan. 13 in a 7:00 p.m. contest against Fordham in McGonigle Hall.
