White and Sustersic draft sides for annual intrasquad

PHILADELPHIA - After much deliberation and strategizing by Cherry manager senior Ben White and White manager senior Brian Sustersic, the teams for the Temple baseball annual Cherry & White Fall Classic have been drafted.  Both sides have a fairly even distribution of rookie and veteran players which should make for an exciting and competitive weekend of baseball at Skip Wilson Field.

White and assistant coach junior Brant Norlander selected a very young pitching staff and are sure their experienced lineup will cause trouble for Team White.  Freshmen Matt Hockenberry, Zach White, Brett Slobodinski, Zach Batchelor and Dan Wasson, along with junior transfer Jimmy Devine comprise the arms Team Cherry has to work with.

In the field, White and Norlander scooped up a formidable group of hitters.  Seniors catcher Ryan Ferguson and shortstop Adrian Perez front Cherry's roster which also includes juniors outfielder Byron McKoy and infielder Cameron Green, redshirt-junior catcher Zach Pettis, redshirt-sophomore catcher Matt Elko, sophomores outfielder Dan Dragos and infielder Henry Knabe, and freshman outfielder Bobby Heitzman.

For Team White, Sustersic and assistant coach redshirt-freshman Ryan Kuehn landed five live arms in juniors Dan Moller and Tyler Horst, redshirt-sophomore Steve Visnic and freshman Ryan Davis.  Freshman Phil Gianakos provides Team White with another option on the rubber, also versatile enough to fill in at first base.

Redshirt-junior third baseman Steve Nikorak and senior first baseman Ben Flanary lead the charge on the White squad's offense.  Senior Rafael Cordero and junior Foster Dunigan look to split time between second base and outfield, while sophomore Elijah Yarborough holds down shortstop.  Junior Jabair Khan and sophomore David Hall have the right two-thirds of the outfield covered, providing Sustersic and Kuehn with speed and power at the top of the order.  Junior Taylor Juran and freshman Will Remillard take on the catching duties, with Juran also an option at first.

Academic coodinator Sean Fagan tosses the ceremonial first pitch to start the best of seven series with games one, two and three on Friday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, October 23, team strength & conditioning coach Marc Proto commences play with the ceremonial first pitch for games four through seven at 9:30 a.m.
