PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Senior Mike May led the Temple men's cross country team to an eighth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships, Saturday morning at Schenley Park. May placed ninth overall to earn All-Conference honors for the second consecutive year.
"It was a solid effort all around," commented assistant coach Matt Jelley. "We had a few things not go our way, but overall it was a solid performance from the team."
Richmond took the title, with senior Andrew Benford running the meets best time. Duquesne and Massachusetts rounded out the top-three. Defending champion Dayton placed fourth, followed by La Salle, Xavier and Saint Joseph's.
May strode the hill-and-dale in a time of 24:54, followed by senior Eddie Penetar. Penetar took the 8k course in a time of 25:07 to place 16th, missing all-conference honors by two-seconds.
"When you do it once, people might think it was luck," commented Jelley. "Mike proved that he belonged there, and it does a ton for our program."
Junior Travis Mahoney finished 41st with a time of 25:42, junior Ben Thomas placed 62nd in a time of 26:18 and junior Geoff Barletta placed 64th in a time of 26:14. In his first A-10 Championship, freshman Will Kellar ran a time of 26:33 for a 72nd place finish, while junior Dan Carreon finished in a time of 26:49 (76th).
