Owls eye improvement of history-making finish at last year's A-10's
Interviews with head coach Eric Mobley and seniors Emmanuel Freeland & Bob Keogh
PHILADELPHIA - Continuing with its formual for success, the Temple men's track team is focused on improving even more. Kicking off the indoor season at the Jack Pyrah Invitational on December 3, the Owls are eager to prove they are still one of the top teams in the region.
In his third season as head coach, Eric Mobley returns many talented athletes from last year's squad. Although the Owls graduated valuable competitors in Grant West, Tim Boeni, Josue Louis and Bryce Buffaloe, Mobley is confident that his returners and incoming class is talented enough to help fill some of the gaps.
Senior Emmanuel Freeland looks to build off his success last season and provide a threat in sprints and relays. The Capitol Heights, Md., native has been the Owls' top 100m dash competitor and also contributes greatly to the short relays.
In the jumps, senior Miles Dryden returns after placing third in the long jump a year ago at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships. Also in the field, senior Bob Keogh is welcomed back as the Owls' top competitor in the weight throw. Keogh battled West and Buffaloe all last season for the school record in the event, and has no doubts he can secure the mark this season.
As for the distance events, the Owls hope success from the cross country season translates into indoor. Seniors Mike May and Eddie Penetar headline a solid core of distance runners who have made significant strides over the past few seasons.
The Cherry and White open the 2010-11 indoor season at the Jack Pyrah Invitational on December 3. The throwing events will take place at Villanova University starting at 4:00 p.m., while the rest of the events will be held at Haverford College at 5:00 p.m.
