PHILADELPHIA - The Big 5 season will begin for Temple women's basketball on Sunday, Dec. 19 in a 12:00 p.m. game at Villanova (5-5). The Owls (6-4) will look to build upon a four-game win streak and also avenge their only Big 5 loss last season.

Temple has won its last two games by an average of 22.5 points with a dominating 75-48 win at Ohio on Dec. 6 followed by a 63-45 win vs. Hartford on Dec. 10. The Owls won their other two games of the streak by a combined total of three points, defeating Rutgers 60-58 at home on Dec. 1 and going on the road to beat Auburn, 62-61 on Dec. 4.

Senior Qwedia Wallace and junior Kristen McCarthy currently lead the Owls with 13.1 points per game, while junior Shey Peddy is averaging 11.5 ppg along with a team-best 3.7 assists per game. Temple's rebounding leader is sophomore Natasha Thames at 6.5 rpg.

SERIES RECORD
Like all the Big 5 match-ups, Temple and Villanova have a storied history dating back to 1975. The Wildcats have enjoyed the majority of success historically with a 25-11 all-time record vs. Temple. Although Villanova has taken the last two meetings, the Owls have won four of the last six. Last year's meeting was the second straight loss for Temple after not losing in five years. The Wildcats took the low-scoring decision at the Liacouras Center, 44-32. In 2008, Villanova won for the first time since 2003 with a 65-56 victory on its home court.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA
Villanova is 5-5 overall and has lost two straight, including a three-point loss to #9 West Virginia. The Wildcats' most recent loss was a 46-43 decision at Saint Joseph's, putting them at 1-1 in the Big 5. Villanova was the Big 5 champion last year at 4-0.

The Wildcats are only averaging 52.2 ppg but are only allowing 51.3 ppg. Former Temple player Lindsay Kimmel sat out the 2009-10 season after transferring, but now leads Villanova with 11.1 points per game.

FIRST BIG 5 TEST OF 2010-11
While Villanova is already 1-1 after two Big 5 contests, the Owls are just beginning Big 5 play at Villanova. The Wildcats took the title last year with a perfect 4-0 record and handed Temple its only loss in a low-scoring, 44-32 decision. Prior to last year, the Owls had won or shared five straight Big 5 titles.

CRUISING ON THAMES
Sophomore Natasha Thames got Temple its most points in the paint this season when she scored a career-high 15 points in a win vs. Hartford on Dec. 10. She added 10 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the season.

ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
Surprisingly for a team that had never been a real three-point threat, this year's squad has proven very capable of scoring from beyond the arc. Temple is averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game (2nd in the A-10, 22nd in NCAA D1) and shooting 38.6 percent from three-point land (1st in the A-10, 11th in NCAA D1).

The Owls sank 12 three-pointers vs. #7/7 Ohio State, and made 10 on three other occasions (at #13/13 UCLA, vs. Rutgers and at Ohio).

LIVING ON THE EDGE
The first two of Temple's last four wins were by a total of three points, as the Owls used free throws to defeat Rutgers by two, and hit a three-pointer to come from behind at Auburn. Shey Peddy hit both attempts at the charity stripe with 2.3 seconds on the clock vs. Rutgers to break a tie, and Brittany Lewis hit the trey at Auburn with 1:22 left for the final score of 62-61.

CARDOZA GETS NUMBER 50
Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza, who has led the team to 20 or more wins in both of her seasons at Temple, reached the 50-win mark in her career with the Owls' victory at Auburn.

1,000-POINT WATCH FOR PEDDY
Junior Shey Peddy, who played for two seasons at D1 Wright State, has scored 969 points in her collegiate career and needs just 31 to hit 1,000.

TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
Temple has recorded fewer than 10 turnovers in three games this season, and also tallied 11 in two contests. The Owls are currently ranked eighth in NCAA Division I with just 13.6 turnovers per game, and rank second in the A-10 in assist/turnover ratio at 1.1.

BALANCED ATTACK
With three players averaging between 11 and 13 points per game and two others near 7 ppg, the Owls have been very balanced offensively. Over 10 games, six different players have led or tied for the team lead in scoring in a game.

MACAULAY NEARLY PERFECT
Victoria Macaulay nearly had a perfect shooting percentage on her way to a career-high 13 points in TU's win at Ohio. She hit 5-of-6 from the field and 3-of-3 at the line, also grabbing five boards in her 19 minutes coming off the bench.

SECOND BIG 5 HONOR; FIRST FOR PEDDY
Junior Shey Peddy earned her first Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week honor on Dec. 6 after strong performances vs. Rutgers and at Auburn. It was the second for Temple this season. Peddy went on to tie for game-high honors that night with 16 points in a win at Ohio.
