Women's Basketball Heads Out on the Road Again; Owls Set to Take on Auburn and Ohio

12.3.10 | Women's Basketball

Temple looking to keep its momentum going after a big win vs. Rutgers

Game Notes vs. Auburn

PHILADELPHIA - It's back on the road again for the Temple women's basketball team as the Owls head to Auburn and Ohio over the next four days. The Cherry and White will face the Auburn Tigers at 2:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, Dec. 4, and continue on to Athens, Ohio, to face the Ohio Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6.

Temple is coming of a big, last-second 60-58 win vs. Rutgers on Dec. 1 in a nail-biter that saw the Owls' Shey Peddy sink 2-of-2 at the line with 2.3 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Of note this weekend is the career record for third-year head coach Tonya Cardoza, who is one win away from 50 in her head coaching career.

Senior Marli Bennett led TU with 14 points in the win vs. Rutgers on 5-of-7 shooting from the field including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Qwedia Wallace and Kristen McCarthy scored 13 points apiece.

Temple has hit 10 three-pointers in back-to-back games. The Owls are averaging 7.7 treys per game (second in the A-10) and hitting 40 percent of their three-point attempts (first in the A-10).

This is the fifth meeting all-time between Temple and Auburn, and the third consecutive season the teams will meet. Each team has a win on its home court over the last two years, with Temple getting a 66-52 win in Philadelphia last November, and Auburn taking a 95-76 win at home in November, 2008. The Tigers are 3-1 vs. the Owls all-time, with two wins in the early 80's.

Auburn started the season 1-4 but has since won two straight, including a 75-70 win vs. South Alabama on Dec. 2. Senior guard Alli Smalley has led the team in scoring in its last three games, and is the team leader overall with 11.4 points per game.

Ohio is 2-3 overall but has lost two straight, including its most recent contest to George Washington out of the A-10. Temple earned a home win against Ohio last year by a score of 65-43.
