NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Kristen McCarthy's extraordinary 42-point performance in Temple's 79-68 win against Charlotte on Feb. 13 has earned her Atlantic 10 and Big 5 women's basketball Player of the Week honors. The honor is the first A-10 weekly award for Temple women's basketball this season.

McCarthy broke a 27-year old Temple women's basketball record for the most points scored in a single game. The 42 points also tie for the second-most in a single game in the history of A-10 women's basketball, and are the most in the A-10 since 1998.

The performance ties for the ninth-most points in NCAA Division I this season.

McCarthy added to her performance by notching a double-double with 11 rebounds in the Charlotte game.

In Temple's 66-54 win vs. UMass earlier in the week, she scored 13 points, grabbed nine boards and dished out five assists.

For the week, McCarthy shot 55.6 percent from the field, 60 percent from behind the arc, averaged 27.5 points per game and 10 rebounds per game.
