Four run FGCU first too much for Owls

FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 25 Florida Gulf Coast took advantage of a four-run first inning to win game two of a three-game set over Temple, 14-1, Saturday afternoon at Swanson Stadium. Senior Tony Jusino and junior Rafael Cordero each had two hits in the loss, with senior Steve Nikorak tallying an RBI single.
The Owls never seemed to get on track on the mound, with starter sophomore Dan Moller (0-1) having a tough first outing. Moller allowed seven earned runs over two innings, surrendering four hits and walking five.
FGCU scored its first four batters in the first inning on three hits and two walks. The Eagles would tack on three more runs in the third, two in the fourth, three in the sixth, and two in the seventh.
Sophomore Tyler Horst was called on in relief for Moller with one out in the third, lasting three innings giving up five runs, three earned.
Patrick Nathanson (1-0) picked up the win for the home team, going six innings allowing six hits and one earned run.
The Eagles offense was sparked by Austin Gaines, who went a perfect four-for-four at the plate with two doubles, a triple, and three RBI.
Temple would get on the board in the sixth. Jusino led off the inning with a single, advanced on a groundout to third by junior Byron McKoy, and scored from second on a Nikorak single.
