PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Filip and Kacper Rams went 2-0 on the day, earning victories in both singles and doubles play, as the Temple men's tennis team defeating defending Atlantic 10 champion Xavier, 4-3, on Sunday, Febuary 7 at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

The Rams duo were the lone doubles winners for the Owls, defeating Patrick Bandy and Chris Herrlinger, 8-6, at number one, giving the Musketeers the early lead with the doubles point.

Filip then went on to hand Herrlinger a 6-2, 6-1 singles loss at the first flight. Kacper took on Bandy at number three, coming away with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Temple's other singles winners were Dmitry Vizhunov and Mansur Gishkaev.

Vizhunov needed three sets to get by J.T. Torbeck at the fourth flight, taking the match 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-4. Gishkaev got his second singles win this season with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Brian Starr at number six.

"It was a very impressive win today for the men, with strong performances, especially in singles play," said head coach Steve Mauro. "The guys have been working hard since September and we were really looking forward to our match with Xavier, the defending champion.

"We came out on top and now I feel the team can believe that it can win A-10's. Hopefully we can keep it going and get some more conference victories."

Temple improves to 1-2 on the year and are back in action on Friday, February 12 at Virginia Commonwealth. Xavier falls to 4-3.
