Owls and Blue Hens will play at 3:00 p.m. on Geasey Field
PHILADELPHIA - The weather outlook is good for Temple lacrosse fans, who can catch a home match-up on Wednesday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m. against the Delaware Blue Hens. The Owls (2-3) will be looking for their second straight win after a convincing, 12-4 road victory at Jacksonville on March 12.
The Owls have gone back and forth so far, losing at Rutgers before rebounding with a win at Lafayette. In TU's home opener, the Owls suffered a loss to #3 Penn, and then suffered a 14-13 triple-overtime loss to UC Davis at home three days later.
Senior Chelsea Rosiek led the Owls with three goals and an assist in the big win at Jacksonville. Rosiek leads the team with 14 points this season (7 goals, 7 assists), while sophomore Karly Cohen is the top goal-scorer with eight so far.
Freshman Stephany Parcell came up big in the win at Lafayette, scoring three goals, and she was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for her efforts.
The team has four captains this year, seniors Jess Colucci and Tracy Zimmer along with juniors Alex Shapiro and Ann Stouffer.
Delaware has just one win after playing a tough schedule thus far in 2010. The Blue Hens defeated Saint Joseph's 12-6 in their second game of the season, but have lost three straight since. Two of those losses were to #17 Loyola and #14 Penn State. Both of Delaware's other two losses (Lehigh and Rutgers) were close games in which the Blue Hens lost 12-11.
Head Coach Kim Ciarrocca (pronounced shuh-rock-uh) is familiar to fans of Temple lacrosse. Ciarrocca coached the Owls from 1993-2004, after a standout career at TU that saw her earn All-America honors twice in both lacrosse and field hockey. The former Kim Lambdin scored 206 goals in her career as an Owl (1985-88), which still ranks seventh all-time. As coach at TU, Ciarrocca led Temple to NCAA Semifinal appearances in 1997 and 1998.
Leading the Blue Hens is junior Ali Libertini with 11 goals and junior Corrine Drost with eight. Junior Makenzie Worthington has played every minute in goal for Delaware, making 33 saves.
