Visiting Dukes take doubles point for the win
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple's men's tennis team hosted Atlantic 10 rival Duquesne on Saturday, March 27, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls fell to the Dukes, 4-3, picking up three singles victories but losing the doubles point.
Duquesne took the early lead when it earned the doubles point with 8-6 wins at number two and three. Despite the point being decided, Filip and Kacper Rams still gutted out a 9-8 tiebreak win over Steve Herchko and Mark Maciuch at the first flight.
In singles play, Filip Rams won his sixth-straight with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Jeremy McClelland at number one. Also on a six-match streak is Stanislav Stekolshikov, who kept that alive with a three-set win against Maciuch, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 on court six. TU's other singles victor was Dmitry Vizhunov at number three, taking the match 7-6, 6-2.
“I have to give credit to Duquesne. They came in playing excellent tennis,” commented Temple head coach Steve Mauro. “The out fought us in doubles and that was really the deciding factor in the match. I am a little disappointed, but I know we have enough talent to move ahead and reach our goal of winning A-10's.”
Temple is 6-8 overall and will be in action next with a 3:00 p.m. match at Saint Joseph's on March 30. Duquesne improves to 9-8 overall.
