Gocht Wins 800m, Meets NCAA Provisional Marks At ECAC Championships

BOSTON – Freshman Victoria Gocht made her mark in her first ever ECAC Championship, meeting NCAA provisional qualifying standards to take the title in the 800m run, this weekend in Boston, Mass. The women's team placed 18th out of 51 teams.
Gocht put down a time of 2:07.05 in the event, shattering her own school record by two over two seconds.
In finals action in other events, senior Christiana Taylor placed eighth in the pentathlon, scoring a total of 3304 points. Classmate Brittney McRae placed 10th in the long jump finals, landing a distance of 5.61m.
The women's 4x400m, comprised of Paris Williams, Brittney McRae, Sheina Roberts, and Gocht, placed third overall in the finals, running a time of 3:43.98.
Sophomore Alanna Owens had a fine day in the shot put and weight throw. Placing 16th in the shot put, Owens hit a distance of 13.13m, while placing 20th in the weight throw with a toss of 15.21m.
Several Owls competed in preliminary action, but just missed qualifying for the final events.
McRae raced to a time of 8.89 in the 60m hurdles prelims, placing 17th. Williams ran a time of 57.13 in the 400m prelims. A trio of Owls in the form of Tessa West (1:16.36), Shadaya Bennett (1:16.63) and Tonney Smith (1:17.33) competed in the 500m prelims.
The women's 4x400m (Williams, McRae, Gocht, Roberts) ran a preliminary time of 3:49.09. In the 4x800m relay, Bennett, Smith, West, and Tashima Stephens clocked in a time of 9:13.53.
