Track & Field Teams Look To Hit Stride At Prestigious Penn Relays

Owls well represented on each side

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple track & field teams look to make their mark in the 116th edition of the Penn Relays, beginning Thursday, April 22 at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field. The women will be sending seven individuals and five relay teams to this year's running, while the men have nine individuals and six relays competing.

Starting things off on Thursday for the Cherry and White will be junior Assata Cowart, senior Christiana Taylor and freshman Jade Wilson in the College Women's 400m hurdles at 10:00 a.m. At the same time, senior Melissa Gale will be competing in the College Women's Pole Vault.

At 1:05 p.m., the women's 4x100m relay team (Butler, McRae, Dorsey, Stonewall) will compete in the College Women's race.

Sophomore Alanna Owens will be competing in the shot put at 2:15, followed by sophomore Ebony Moore in the discus and senior Brittney McRae in the long jump at 4:00 p.m.

The women's 4x400m relay (Taylor, Stephens, Gocht, Williams, or West) compete at 6:05 p.m. in the College Women's division.

Action for the men begins at 7:45 p.m. with sophomore Travis Mahoney in the 3000m Steeplechase. Junior Mike May wraps up Thursday's competition for Temple in the Olympic Development Men's 5000m at 10:15 p.m.

Friday begins bright and early for the Owls, with senior Brad McFadden taking to the track in the 400m hurdles at 9:00 a.m. Following him at 10:00 a.m. will be senior Josue Louis in the College Men's Eastern high jump.

At 12:35 p.m. the men's 4x100 (Dryden, Boeni, Louis, Freeland) will compete, followed by the men's 4x200 (Dryden, Boeni, Lynch, Freeland) at 1:50 p.m. Senior Tim Boeni will compete for a title in the College Men's Long Jump Championship at 2:00 p.m.

The women's 4x200m (Butler, Williams, McRae, Taylor) runs in the College Women's division at 2:10 p.m.

The men will be competing in the Men's Shuttle Hurdles Championship (Louis, Malloy, Howitt, Schiavi) at 2:55 p.m., followed by junior Miles Dryden in the long jump at 3:30 p.m.

Friday closes out with three relays, beginning with the College Men's 4x400 Wetzler/Pennsylvania (McFadden, Schiavi, Parisi, Taylor) at 5:30 p.m. The College Women's Sprint Medley Championship (Butler, McRae, West, Roberts, Cowart) starts at 6:30, capping the day off with the College Men's Sprint Medley (Lynch, Pensyl, Duncan, Coulson) at 6:55 p.m.

Senior Grant West begins Saturday with the College Men's Hammer Throw Championship at 11:00 a.m. Senior Bryce Buffaloe and junior Bob Keogh take over at 12:15 p.m. in the College Men's Hammer Throw College event.

At 1:55 p.m. the women's 4x800 (Bennett, Stephens, Smith, Gocht) step into the starting blocks for the College Women's Championship.

Wrapping up competition for the Owls will be the men's 4x800m team (Parisi, Taylor, Coulson, Barletta) in the College Men's Championship.
