Three Owls own top marks in conference
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's track & field team looks to improve its third place performance from a year ago as they travel to the University of Massachusetts this weekend for the 2010 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held May 1-2. The Owls currently boast three top marks in the conference, all in individual field events.
Senior Tim Boeni leads the Owls in the long jump with a conference-best mark of 25-08 and looks to capture a title this season after placing second at last season's Championships. Junior Miles Dryden ranks right behind Boeni in the A-10, recently landing 23-08 at the Penn Relays.
Temple's “Big Three” – Grant West, Bryce Buffaloe and Bob Keogh – have dominated the hammer throw all season and look to do much of the same this weekend. West, Buffaloe and Keogh rank one-two-three in the event in the conference this season, with West and Keogh finishing second and third respectively in 2009.
Buffaloe has performed well in the shot put and discus, boasting the third-best tosses in the conference in both of those events.
Freshman Tim Malloy has had an exceptional debut in the high jump for the Cherry and White, ranking in a three way tie for the conference-lead with a mark of 6-08.25 at the Lou Onesty Invitational. In the same event, senior Josue Louis posts the next best finish behind the tie clearing 6-07.50 at the Greyhound Invitational.
On the oval, the Owls look to senior Brad McFadden to defend his title in the 400m hurdles. McFadden currently ranks fifth in the conference, running a season-best of 53.55 at the Lou Onesty Invitational.
Sophomore Travis Mahoney has his eyes set on a title in the 3000m Steeplechase. Currently ranking second in the A-10 (9:14.47), he placed seventh in the event last season.
The 2010 Atlantic 10 Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships begins at 8:45am on Saturday, May 1, with the women's heptathlon. On Sunday, May 2, the men's decathlon kicks off the second day of competition at 8:45am.
Live audio and video streaming of the two-day Championship will be available for $7.95. Log on to www.atlantic10.org for complete coverage of the Championship.
