Baseball Falters In Series Finale To Dayton, 13-3

– Miscues in the field were again the catalyst for the Temple baseball team's struggles in the series finale against Dayton. The Owls' let up four errors, allowing the Flyers to cruise to a 13-3 win, Sunday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field.

Redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak (1-3) started for Temple, lasting 3.0 innings and allowing five earned runs. Seniors Matt Blackburn, Mike Click and Ryan Thomas, along with junior Brian Sustersic combined to finish out the game.

Dayton's Mike Hauschild (2-2) threw 7.0 innings to seal the win, striking out nine and allowing three earned runs.

The Flyers sprung out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits with two outs. The visitors posted three in the third and four in the fourth before Temple would crack the scoreboard.

Junior Adrian Perez (2-3, RBI) led off the Temple fourth with a single, followed by a double from Nikorak. Both would advance with Perez scoring on a passed ball and Nikorak plating on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Taylor Juran (1-3, RBI) to cut the lead to 10-2.

Temple matched the Flyers run in the seventh, but one in the eighth and another in the ninth from Dayton pushed the final score to 13-3.

The Owls fall to 3-19, 1-5 in Atlantic 10 play while Dayton moves to 13-15, 3-3.

Temple will be back at Skip Wilson Field on Tuesday, April 6 to take on Lehigh at 3:00 p.m.
