Filip Rams wins seventh-straight singles match
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Temple men's tennis team won four singles matches after dropping the doubles point to defeat Villanova 4-3 on Tuesday, April 6. The Owls move to 8-8 overall and the Wildcats drop to 3-17.
In doubles play, the host team claimed the point with wins at the first and second flights. TU's only doubles winners were Dmitry Vizhunov and Mansur Gishkaev with a hard fought 9-8 (5) decision over Trenton Alenik and Connor Witty.
Filip Rams made quick work of Alex Leeser at the first singles flight, winning 6-0, 6-1, to earn the Owls a point. Also winning in singles play were Vizhunov, Gishkaev and Luv Sodha to secure the win for the Cherry & White.
"Today was a good win for the men's tennis team," said head coach Steve Mauro. "Despite various injuries, the guys fought extremely hard. It is always great to defeat a Big 5 rival, and we hope to do the same tomorrrow against Saint Joseph's."
