Men's Tennis Wins 6-1 Match at Atlantic 10 Rival Saint Joseph's

Owls record all straight-set victories
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Playing its final match against an Atlantic 10 rival of the regular-season, the Temple men's tennis team defeated Saint Joseph's 6-1 on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.
The Owls started things strongly, sweeping the doubles point, despite switching up the duos. Filip Rams, playing his first match of the season without brother Kacper Rams, teamed up with Dmitry Vizhunov to win 8-4 at number one. Andrey Morozov and Luv Sodha took an 8-6 second flight, and Mansur Gishkave and Kacper Rams earned an 8-5 victory at number three for the clean sweep.
In singles play, Filip Rams picked up another point for TU, and his eighth-straight singles win, with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Michael Stauble. Stanislav Stekolshikov was the next to finish, failing to drop a game to Tommy Gates at number five for a 6-0, 6-0 win. Gishkaev secured the win for Temple with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Nick Tuxen at the fourth flight. Also winning for the Cherry & White were Vizhunov (#3; 6-3, 6-0) and Morozov (#2; 6-4, 6-3).
“We had another strong performance today, especially since we mixed up the lineups a bit,” commented head coach Steve Mauro. “We were trying different combinations and the guys performed well, not dropping a set except at sixth singles. We are looking forward to our next challenge at Binghamton, a nationally ranked team.”
Temple improved to 9-8 overall and 4-2 against A-10 foes. The Owls return to play on Sunday, April 11, traveling to #52 Binghamton for a 10 a.m. match. Saint Joseph's is 4-14, 0-4.
