Men's Varsity 8 Ranked #19 By USRowing

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's Varsity 8 is back in the national spotlight, earning a #19 ranking in the USRowing Top 20 poll for the second straight week. It marks the first time the Owls Varsity 8 has appeared in the poll since placing #20 on May 7, 2008.

"We are happy to again be included among the nation's elite," Temple head coach Gavin White said. "We however are remaining focused on the next race, which is this weekend at the Knecht Cup."

The Temple Varsity 8 is comprised of three seniors - Pat Curran (stroke), Brendan Cunningham (5-seat) and Tom Masterson (2-seat), three juniors - Jeff Wunderlich (6-seat), Nenad Ninkovic (7-seat) and John Masterson (bow), two sophomores - Don Norris (cox) and Aaron Heyde (3-seat), and freshman Mike Mirabella (4-seat).

White, one of the nation's most decorated crew coaches, is in his 32nd year at the helm. He has led Temple to 19 gold medals in the Heavyweight Varsity 8 at the Dad Vail Regatta and seven appearances in the Royal Henley Regatta.

The Owls take to the Cooper River Saturday and Sunday at the Knecht Cup.
