CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte brought out its offense in full force in game two of the three-game series in North Carolina, topping the Temple baseball team 23-0 Saturday afternoon. Juniors Ben Flanary and Byron McKoy led Temple combining for four of the Owls' six hits on the day.
Redshirt-senior Matt Mongiardini (0-9) started for Temple and would be one of five pitchers the Owls would use on the day. Redshirt-freshman Steve Visnic, sophomore Dan Moller, senior Mike Click and freshman James Powers combined for the remainder of the game.
Charlotte's Tyler Pilkington earned the win, going eight innings allowing five hits and no runs.
The 49ers opened the contest with seven in the first, putting up 11 in the third and five more in the fifth. Leadoff hitter Cory Tilton gave the Owls trouble all day, going four-for-five with two home runs and seven RBI.
For the Owls, Flanary went two-for-three with two doubles.
Temple is now 8-30, 5-12 in Atlantic 10 play while Charlotte moves to 30-11, 13-4.
The series wraps Sunday with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m.
