Owls’ junior hit .591 with seven RBI during the week

PHILADELPHIA – Temple baseball junior Ryan Ferguson has been named Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending May 10th, announced the league this afternoon. The Owls' catcher batted .591 (13-22) with seven runs and as many RBI, helping Temple to a conference series win over George Washington this past weekend.

Along with A-10 and Big 5 Player of the Week, Ferguson was also named Owlsports.com Athlete of the Week.

Ferguson collected multiple hits in all five of TU's games last week. The Glen Mills, Pa. native had four doubles and a home run putting up a .909 slugging percentage. He also walked three times and stole one base to compile a .640 on base percentage.

Opening the week going four-for-five with a walk and a double against Delaware, Ferguson continued his streak going three-for-four with a double and two RBI at Rutgers. He continued to roll in the Owls' conference series with George Washington, starting at catcher and recording two hits in each game.

In the rubber match on Sunday, Ferguson singled in a run during the third inning game-tying rally, doubled to plate two and give the Owls the lead in the fifth, and drew a walk to score the game winning run in the ninth.

The junior is now tops on the team in batting (.342) and RBI (31), while tying for the team lead in hits with 55 and second on the team with 12 doubles.

He is the first Owl to earn A-10 Player of the Week this year and the first since Carmen Del Mastro won the award on March 30, 2009.

Temple (10-34, 7-14 A-10) travels to take on city-rival Villanova at 3:15 on Tuesday.
