PHILADELPHIA -
The Temple men's crew team advanced three boats to the finals of the 72 Annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta Saturday, taking home two medals on a day marred by heavy winds. The Owls Freshman/Novice 4 won gold with the team's Junior Varsity 8 taking home a bronze medal. The Owls' 19th-ranked Varsity 8, however, placed fifth in its final.

"It was a good day as all of our boats qualified," Temple head coach Gavin White said. "I was a little disappointed that the Varsity 8 did not qualify in their heat, but when I saw they had the third fastest time (among all boats) on the day it made me feel better. We still have a good chance to win it tomorrow."

Temple's Freshman/Novice 4, comprised of Mike Mirabella (stroke) Kevin Nally (3-seat), Maciej Grudzian (2-seat), Richard Ehmer (bow) and Nick Palestro (cox), dominated its heat, defeated Michigan by five seconds to win its semifinal before besting Mercyhurst by 3.25 seconds in the final. Michigan picked up the bronze medal with Bowdoin, Purdue and La Salle rounding out the race.

Temple's Junior Varsity 8, comprised of James Barr (stroke), Joe Bellesheim (7-seat), Jeff Wunderlich (6-seat), Aaron Heyde (5-seat), Djordje Vilmanovic (4-seat), Peter Ivacic (3-seat), John Boehm (2-seat), Mike VanAssche (bow) and Matt Sbei (cox), failed to defend its 2009 title, but picked up a bronze medal with a third place finish. Drexel won the race with Marietta taking second.

The Owls Varsity 8, comprised of Pat Curran (stroke), Nenad Ninkovic (7-seat), Jason Cartwright (6-seat), Scott Waters (5-seat), Brian Rehill (4-seat), Brendan Cunningham (3-seat), Tom Masterson (2-seat), John Masterson (bow) and Don Norris (cox), finished second to Delaware in its semifinal heat to earn a spot in the Grand Final. Starting in lane one against a strong field, the Owls were unable to get into contention for a medal as Brock defeated Delaware in open water. Florida Tech took the bronze with Virginia edging Temple by .171 seconds for fourth.

The Owls' Varsity 4 was scratched while Temple's pair of senior Bradford Long and junior Nick Contino finished sixth in its semifinal.
