Senior Tim Boeni Places 20th In The Long Jump At The NCAA Championships

Owls' senior ties for ninth in flight, 20th overall landing 23-10.25
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Tim Boeni represented Temple track & field as the first male athlete in over 15 years to compete at the NCAA Championships Saturday morning in Eugene, Ore. Boeni landed the 20th-best long jump amongst the nation's top competitors with a leap of 23-10.25, topping foes from Mississippi, Texas Tech, Oregon and Louisana State.
"Going into it our goal was hopefully to not just get to that meet but to excel, and for it to be the first time in 15 years for someone to get to that level was great," commented head coach Eric Mobley. "We wished the outcome could have been better for Tim, being it his first time there as a senior. Even still, it was tremendous for our program and shows the rest of our team that reaching the NCAA Championships is a very attainable goal."
"The experience was incredible," said Boeni. "Going up against the best athletes in the country made it a very challenging meet. As far as my performance, I was disappointed in how I competed and thought I could have done a little bit better. If I had jumped as I did all year, I would have made the finals but that did not happen."
The Brick, N.J. native was the first athlete under second-year head coach Eric Mobley to contend for a national title in any event. Establishing himself as a national contender this season, Boeni captured titles in the Atlantic 10 and IC4A Championships in the long jump this year.
Boeni will next compete at the USA Track & Field Championships on June 23-27 hosted at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
