Ferguson, Perez and White honored by league

PHILADELPHIA – In voting conducted by the city's head coaches and sports information directors, Temple baseball juniors Ryan Ferguson, Adrian Perez and Ben White have been named to the Philadelphia All-Big 5 baseball team. Ferguson and White were two of 12 position players named to the team, while White, named to the All-Big 5 Academic team, was honored as one of five pitchers. It is the first such honor for all three Owls.

A walk on a year ago, Ferguson (Glen Mills, PA/Garnett Valley) broke out this season to lead the team in batting average (.328), hits (62), triples (2) and RBI (40). Serving as the Owls' primary catcher, Ferguson was one of four players to appear in all 51 games, making 49 starts. He turned it on for conference play, driving in 28 runs with a team high 35 hits and four home runs. Earning Atlantic 10, Philadelphia Big 5, and Owlsports.com Player of the Week for the week of May 10, he hit .591 with four doubles and seven RBI over five games. Ferguson owned a team high 12 multi-RBI games, hitting .351 with runners in scoring position.

Perez (Woodland, CA/Yuba CC) finished his first season in the cherry and white ranked second on the team in batting average (.326), hits (61) and home runs (5), and third in doubles (11). He compiled a personal season-best nine game hit streak from April 4 to 17, while also reached base safely in nine consecutive plate appearances, going eight-for-eight with a walk against Marist and Niagara (3/19-3/20). Only missing five starts due to injury, Perez secured shortstop for 46 games in his first season with the Owls. He came up clutch on three occasions with three walk off singles, two of which coming in consecutive days to capture a series win over Richmond and another in a non-conference victory over Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's.

Moving into the top spot in the Owls' rotation early in the season after starting the year as the third starter, White (Parkesburg, PA/Coatesville) finished the season leading the team in wins (4), innings pitched (91.1), and strikeouts (94). His season strikeout total ranked seventh in program history for a single season and is the most for any Temple pitcher since 1999 (Pete Moore, 103). White ended the year ranking second in the Atlantic 10 in strikeouts and 36th nationally. Also sixth in the conference in innings pitched and third in complete games with four, he posted two-straight conference starts with double-digit strikeouts with a career high 13 against Dayton (4/3) and 10 at Saint Louis (4/9). White impressively struck out eight or more batters in seven starts this season.
