Temple Fencers Excel At Fencing Summer Nationals

Three Owls reach the finals in their respective weapons

ATLANTA, Ga. - Temple fencing was well represented at the 2010 Fencing Summer Nationals as three Owls reached the finals in their respective events in Atlanta.  The competition, which concluded July 13, featured the top fencer's from around the country.

"I was very pleased with how the girls fenced," commented head coach Nikki Franke.  "It was an excellent showing for Temple and demonstrated the strength of our program."

Sophomore Kamali Thompson fenced to the finals of the U19 (Junior) Women's Sabre, finishing in an impressive sixth place.  Lian Osier, fencing out of Oregon, took the title in the event.

Also fencing sabre, graduated senior Christie Griffith took home fifth place in the Women's Division IA.  The event was won by Tiffany Dell'Aquila, of California.

Griffith also was a semi-finalist in the Division I (Senior) Women's Sabre, ending in 14th place.  In the same event, Thompson reached the quarter-finals placing 22nd and junior Audrey Barroso placed 38th.  Taking first place was Emily Jacobsen, of Georgia.

Sophomore Alyssa Lomuscio battled to the finals of the Division I (Senior) Women's Foil, finishing a solid eighth place.  In the same event, graduated senior Melissa Parker placed 41st.  Margaret Lu of New York won the title in the event.
