Tim Perry Named Assistant Baseball Coach

Perry joins Owls' staff after five years at UNC-Asheville
PHILADELPHIA - Tim Perry, who spent five seasons as a member of the University of North Carolina-Asheville coaching staff, has been named an assistant baseball coach at Temple University, announced head coach Rob Valli. Perry will work primarliy with the Owls' pitching staff and also will serve as the recruiting coordinator.
"We are extremely excited to have Coach Perry join our staff," commented Valli. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will have an immediate impact on our pitching staff. Tim is a tireless recruiter who has experience recruiting our region."
At UNC-Asheville, Perry served two of his five seasons as the associate head coach after being promoted during the summer of 2007. He was a key factor in the Bulldogs 2006 Big South Conference championship, having recruited the class that led the team to their first ever conference title and NCAA Regional berth. In 2008, Perry coached Big South Pitcher of the Year Alan DeRatt, who led all of Division I for most of the season with the lowest earned run average.
Under Perry's guidance, 18 players that he coached and recruited have gone on to play professionally, 12 of whom were pitchers. He came to Asheville after serving at Lander University and Newberry College as an assistant coach. He also worked as a graduate assistant at Winthrop University in the 2000 season when the Eagles were the defending Big South Conference champions.
Perry enjoyed a standout baseball career at Newberry where he was a four-year letterman for the Indians. He led the team in innings pitched and strikeouts from 1995-97, also boasting the team's best ERA in 1995-96. Over his career, he was a starting pitcher for four years and made 36 starts, winning 16 games and saving seven. Perry graduated from Newberry in 1997 with a degree in Physical Education.
He is married to the former Virginia Grace Shaw of Myrtle Beach. They have one daughter, Ava Grace Perry.
