HOLMDEL, N.J. - Led by a first place finish from junior Travis Mahoney, the Temple men's cross country team opened its 2010 season by winning the 16th Annual Monmouth Invitational, held Saturday morning at Holmdel Park. Mahoney strode over the hill-and-dale in a time of 26:23.7 for top honors.
The Owls outplaced host Monmouth, La Salle and Rutgers in the team scores.
Placing in the top five along with Mahoney were senior Mike May (3rd, 26:33.1) and junior Eddie Penatar (5th, 26:59.2). Also faring well for Temple was junior Geoff Barletta, who placed 13th in a time of 27:20.3. Will Kellar was the highest placing freshman of the day for TU, running a time of 27:39.1 for 26th place.
Temple is back in action next when they compete at the Paul Short Invitational on October 1.
