Keogh and Pickett nab first place finishes

- The Temple men's track and field team kicked off 2011 at the Akron Opener, hosted in the Akron Field House on Friday evening.  Senior Bob Keogh, freshman Gabe Pickett and junior Travis Mahoney posted first place finishes for the Owls, who placed second to host Akron in the meet.

Keogh dominated the weight throw, posting the best toss of the evening at 60-10.00 to meet IC4A qualifying marks.  Pickett, also competing in the field, took top honors in the triple jump with a mark of 45-06.25.  For Mahoney, top honors in the 3000m came with a time of 8:34.41.

Senior Miles Dryden competed in the long jump, placing fourth with a leap of 22-01.80. 

On the track, two Owls met IC4A marks.  Senior Emmanuel Freeland placed second in the 200m with a time of 22.23 for IC4A's, while classmate Lou Parisi met qualifying marks in the 800m with a time of 1:53.40.

Temple fared well in the 60m hurdles, with freshman Chris Bradley placing second (8.44) and senior Jason Howitt placing third (8.65).

Also faring well for the Cherry and White was junior Alan Harding in the 400m (4th, 50.06), senior Eddie Penetar in the one-mile run (3rd, 8:40.49) and junior Ben Thomas in the 3000m (3rd, 4:16.14).

The Owls are back in action next when they take to New York City for Saturday Night at the Armory, held January 15 at the 168th St. Armory.
